Great piece. I ate my way through a lot of that from the mid-70s on in SF. I’m not sure I was ever aware that not long before my time there had been no Hong Kong seafood or dim sum.
For decades, most of the best and most varied regional Chinese restaurants in “San Francisco” have been in suburbs like San Mateo and Milpitas, much like in “Los Angeles” they’re in the SGV.
