it’s back
Taking bets on O/U of FTC at PRD this weekend: 5.5
Black bean clams! Drool…classic HK! I knew this dish would eventually show up
hopefully the BBC isn’t so salty this time
I’m sure the feedback will be heeded.
BBC LOL.
Did I miss something here? I thought PRD was closed Monday and Tuesday.
I guess I won’t need to fly to HK for this dish anymore.

I’m glad of the positive write up but I take a little exception to the opening lines:
Though dilapidated and rugged Chinatown may often seem, and whether COVID-19 or community disinvestment is to blame, there’s a shiny new spot that sticks out like a slick loner in the Far East Plaza. Catering to a with it crowd
Especially from a site claiming to be “The insider’s view of Downtown’s culture, food, drinks, and the people who shape it” it has a whiff of the same tone someone used calling Virgil and Marathon a “shitty corner”.
Yeah, and top of the icky implications, it’s also just a poorly constructed sentence from a technical perspective. Hmph.
Plus it’s just not true, Chinatown has felt clean and safe every time i’ve been there - I’d rather stroll around that area than most of downtown personally.
Yeah it’s such a tired trope - “look at me, I braved this gritty, dark, scary, foreign land to bring you the good news of this shocking rose growing from a pile of dung.”
And, like right off the bat, chef Lee mentions that he took over the Baohaus space. And it’s in Far East Plaza!!! Howlin’ Ray’s and Endorffeine and Lasa and Scoops and Amboy are right there! Chego opened there what, a decade ago?
As a person who worked in DTLA and regularly took the DASH to Chinatown for lunches (pre-COVID), I wholeheartedly agree with this. LADowntowner is for those who loiter in the high-rise lobbies anyways (though I’m always happy when @JLee gets some much-deserved pub). Plus I don’t want to eat $20 salads next to banking and biglaw bros, and be verbally attacked by racists who ask if I speak English.
We def are closed Mon/Tues, I dont know why they didn’t fact check our website, instagram, yelp, google page, call our store? Maybe not enough avenues of access to information?
I can’t believe they ran with your joke lol
Ditto. One of my favorite home goods/gift shops was in the Far East Plaza. I spent as much time there before the “it crowd” vendors as I do now, maybe more. Totally family friendly. I was heartsick (and still am) when they folded.
You mean Wing Hop Fung? Their Monterey Park and Arcadia branches are still alive and kickin’.
