I walked by one evening last week and my impression was 7 Kingdoms is definitely going for more of the Dance Talk Central crowd, than the FTC crowd.
Dance Drink Central, with various patrons donning +1 scale mail armor and a brandishing a +2 Vorpal (plastic) Blade of Sharpness… #SawtelleCosplay #AD&D
X-posted in the “South Bay Staples” thread…
My partner and I were in JP (and ROK) this summer; we hit two of the basement-level grocery floors in JP in the fancy shopping malls (e.g., Isetan). Trying to get some similar chocolates as we found there – tl;dr – anyone know where to find Japanese fancy chocolates in Sawtelle/westside?
Off the top of my head, I can’t think of any chocolatiers along Sawtelle.
I know that @Hungrydrunk had mentioned Mitsuwa in Torrance. There’s a (much smaller) Mitsuwa on Centinela and last time I went (which I think was > 1 yr ago), there was a separate small store inside that I think sold chocolates (or baked goods? Or both?). It wasn’t the usual set up I’ve seen at other Mitsuwas.
Is there a place in Little Tokyo that might have fancy chocolate?
Totally overlooked Little Tokyo because I loathe parking down there, but that’s a good idea.
I am not a chocolate person but we need some last minute gifts!
Little Tokyo station has reopened and it’s super easy to hop over to the village. I take the train there all the time to pop into Nijaya.
you could just order it online… there are a lot of websites that sell japanese (and other asian) candies and snacks now
i also don’t know if they’re still around after COVID but there was a kiosk at Santa Anita mall (if you’re in the SGV) that sold Japanese snacks and candy, a lot of them were boxed as gifts.
Royce might be the one you’re talking about! They have stalls within Mitsuwa locations, including West LA and Torrance. Very delicate, nice packaging, good for gifts.
Uncle Tetsu’s cheesecakes are about to arrive on Sawtelle, in the space next to the karaoke joint in the Nijiya Marketplace plaza…
Is already operational? I get my haircut upstairs, and it looked like there were already people working and goods on the counter when I went by a few wks ago.
It’s been open for about three weeks. My kid and I tried one last Monday. The cake was very, very fluffy, but the addition of all that air made it seem dry and a little rubbery.
I went to Kura the last week of December and Uncle Tetsu was open.
Ban Ban Burger…
New Thai inspired burgers and shakes.
Their Padang chicken sando is the surprise hit there…
I tried their pork sando and it was tough and gristly - was quite dissapointed.
Question: when did the crepe place become such an attraction??? I think it’s been for at least 2 yrs? Is it any good?
It is not.
Longer than that - 6 or 7 years maybe? Was in Little Tokyo last week and there was no line at that location.
It’s been pretty hot for a long time (early 2000s), but there was a definite post pandemic spike.
FYI, When it gets busy they dip into pre-made stacks of crepes (they make them there, but they’re served cold) and fill those. The cone concept is cute, but the fillings are kind of boring, and I find them difficult to eat.
Anyway… calling yourself Millet Crepe and not serving millet crepes makes my brain hurt.
