Source for Oysters?

Where do you like to source fresh live oysters from in LA? I am on westside but will travel for shellfish nirvana. I am wondering if there are some places I don’t know about.

I get mine from Whole Foods. They regularly put Luna oysters from Carlsbad on special for 90 cents apiece. They will shuck them for you, but I do it myself as I don’t want to lose a drop of the liquor. They often have kumamotos, my favorite as well - though not for 90 cents.

For West Coast, I buy Morro Bay Oysters from Sea Stephanie Fish. She has a pickup in Culver on Saturdays. Her live uni is great, too

Good to know! I was going to post her contact too but I didn’t see a drop listed this far south on her IG

I think I’ve seen nice stuff at SM Seafood

Normally I’d offer up some of our own stuff for sale even though we don’t sell direct to consumer. However, we’ve got a minimum of 10 dozen in a case for sale and at the moment we can’t get enough of them. We source from the Southern Hemisphere(opposite season) so due to the extremely warm temperatures on the local coasts out here for the last couple weeks our sales have sky rocketed and we can’t keep up with demand because we don’t have enough freight space to get them up here. I can let you know when that settles down a bit in a months time if you’re still curious.

Some oyster places will ship direct to you in coolers packed with a ton of dry ice.

Are you willing to drive to Marin County?

Thanks so much for the info. What is “your place”? Restaurant? Distributor?

This week’s info from her IG
