I went today for lunch. Great vibes, old school, reminded me of a cleaner El Cholo and tucked deep into South Bay. I found the fajitas themselves a little overseasoned. I think if they dialed it down it’d be perfect. The quality of the steak/shrimp/chicken were great and loved the overall package. The rice was a tad dry but I expect that at combo plate Mexican. I’d go back and ask them for like 1/2 or 1/4 of the seasoning. Thanks for the rec though!

Nice glad you enjoyed it, was just there for cinco de mayo and they ran out of beans!

They also make a very stiff margarita.

Def not drive worthy but it’s a great nostalgic local spot

How were these? I just noticed them this week… any good?

Had a pretty forgettable meal at gabi James. Only thing that was great was Spanish tortilla.

Wish there was better dining in the area, it’s in the Michelin guide for what that’s worth

i like that mediterranean place across the street (Turqoise). dips are good. sandwiches solid. service always wonderful.

Nijiya in Torrance has, new to me, fresh onigiri made to order and as grab and go. $3.50 or $4.50 each, depending on the filling. There is a $10 combo for two onigiri and a small bowl of tonjiro. I opted for the combo today with a pork belly and a mentaiko onigiri. Those two onigiris were huge. I probably should have eaten one of them. Both were delicious with a generous amount of fillings. The tonjiro was hearty and chock full of gobo, sliced pork belly, inari age (tofu poouch), and a sprinkling of stewed veges. I was excited to find something new to try and felt nostalgic finding tonjiro from watching Midnight Diner during the pandemic days.

Prior to going to Nijiya, I was at Tokyo Central and didn’t find anything inspiring for lunch. I feel Nijiya has way better selection of ready to eat food, hot or cold. Glad I made the hop over to Nijiya to try this new offering.

Of all the major Japanese supermarket chains in SoCal, Nijiya prepares the best ready-to-go food.

Absolutely! I love their huge california roll handrolls. Super cheap and they stick huge pieces of Avocado in it. I love Onigiri and am looking forward to trying this lunch combo!!

I tried to go to the new Waka Sakura in Gardena and there were 34 parties on the tablet sign in at the entrance.

What’s good there?

Soft opening for Schellz Pizza in Lomita. Kitchen space is very large. Sounds like they have big plans in the future. Opened two days ago and got some traffic already. We like the Hokkaido Mushroom pizza.
