Keeping the crust on already kills a huge part of what makes them so good in Japan.

This is not my true FTC confession. We have a 7-11 at the corner of our home. But one of my SO’s favorite treats is their Chicken Salad Sandwich. About a month ago he noticed the change to the milk bread anf a creamier salad. He likes it.

Picking up some soba noodles at Tokyo Central and couldn’t resist

Cold soy milk from Meiji featuring the GOAT on bluetooth. Refreshing but also has a very good body to it unlike others.

Have hit a couple random spots of late…

  1. Chowder Barge in Wilmington. It’s a fried seafood shack with solid clam chowder. Full of clams, not too bacon-y. The sourdough bowl is nicely toasted. Steamed clams were meh - everyone serves those frozen clams from Asia now, no longer the good old American clams with much thicker shells (cherrystone?) that are bigger, meatier and much more flavorful. Fried seafood was good, calamari rings and shrimp solid but clams not really meaty enough. Older son had a patty melt on sourdough that was delicious as well.
  2. Shrimp By You - Cajun shrimp place in the Gaetano’s plaza. Sort of depressing location but the seafood is good and there’s never a line. We’re simple when it comes to this, so we do a pound of shrimp, 3 orders of sausage and 3 orders of corn and call it a day. I’m not a huge fan of this style of food, so can’t really compare to other places.

Gorditas La Guera @Wilmington “Morning” Market, 7am-2pm.

Gorditas Durango style. Not deep fried! On the plancha. Yes fresh pressed masa.

Menu:

Something for everyone.

Horchata with walnuts and melon.

Gorditas. I loved the chile pepper and the cactus one (it was cooked in a tomato sauce). $5 each. Warning the salsa aceite is hot. The verde might be a better option for certain palates.,

Beats all the bs breakfast/brunch spots by Torrance/Redondo area!

Tia was incredibly sweet to me. Considering my Spanish also incredibly patient.

Elote asado stand at Wilmington Night Market.

This is according to the owner what elote is like in Mexico. Just lime, salt, tajin. Mexican corn over coals. It is more chewy than the sweet corn we are used to.

Quite the contrast with the boiled sweet corn slathered in mayo, and cheese that we are used to.

Potato flautas at the antijitos stand.

Also there is a baledas stand, a Michoacán style enchilada (I went here see my post on it), and the pupusa stand looked great.
