I’m planning on visiting Little Tokyo on a morning and going for lunch at Sushi Gen. What time are they least busy, and when is the latest time I’ll be able to score a seat? (party of 4)
Sushi Gen is closed on Sundays.
Sundays are not optimal days for sushi in LA anyways.
Try the udon at Marugame Monzo or ramen at Ramen Manichi instead.

But a big thumbs up on maragume monzo.
Sure the first time you go you get the uni in cream sauce which really is a treat. The Japanese version of Alfredo.
But then there are the soups with light, very flavorful broth and slices of roast duck and the thick chewy noodles.
Good stuff.
Can only suggest if you really like heavy/unctuous pastas. That dish did not work out for me at all but the wife loves it.

True enough, it’s a heavy lunch. Of course it is ‘Uni in Cream Sauce’, so those expecting a light and subtle touch will be disappointed, especially in their reading comprehension skills.
The soup udons are much less intense and less likely, probably, to make you want lay down for a nap the rest of the day.
The last time I went the lunch special was $15. Is that still the case?
