The 25 Best Restaurants in Los Angeles Right Now

I like this list bc a good majority of these spots seem like they more or less would only exist in LA. Try to imagine most of these spots elsewhere.

Comedy. The chauvinistic Euros incredulous any restaurant in North America could be considered an eating city, Westsiders protesting lack of representation, haters with the boring criticism that LA is too spread out…

I know they went alphabetical, but NY’ers seeing Antico Nuovo 2nd and going there immediately on a vacation to LA is GUARANTEED disappointment.

I haven’t been to Antico Nuovo yet (even though I live really close by)— is it that disappointing? My impression was that it’s decent but pricey for what it is.

I went once and have no itch to go back.

Peony: I’m so happy to know you find the update useful! Yes, the menu seemed to be completely redesigned from our last visit. We learned from the restaurant that they had a significant staff change in the past year or so. Maybe that explained the change in the cooking style and execution. Here are pictures of the menu. Hope you enjoy your visit!

Her praise for Antico Nuovo is quite specific.

Go for the slightly esoteric, perfectly made pastas, like dimpled foglie d’ulivo, perky malloreddus and slippery, thin-skinned plin dell’ alta langa, but don’t let it be at the expense of the olive oil-soaked focaccia, the beans baked with bread over a wood fire or the intensely flavored ice creams.

ice cream is amazing. focaccia was fantastic. everything else mediocre. You literally have Chi Spacca, + Osteria Mozza staring at you 5 minutes away and they went with this place instead… OR literally 30 other restaurants not listed here. NYT must be haters of Nancy Silverton tbh

never a good sign when you have to pick THESE SPECIFIC ITEMS otherwise you won’t have a great dining experience. You could throw a dart at items at Osteria and have a wonderful time.

I love Antico Nuovo!
More than decent - I think it’s great.
Chicken dish, and fennel coated Tuscan ribs are terrific, as well as all the pastas and the chicken.
Pane with duck liver is a fav of my wife, but not really my thing…I’ll take any of the other bread dips.
But for sure pricey.

wow-- such divergent reactions! Maybe I’ll just have to check it out one day for myself if I feel like an expensive local splurge

GF and I are just back from Seoul and hopped on reservations to baroo for our anniversary. Very few spots through Oct. Glad we’re getting in before it blows up

Didn’t love it when we went but the takeout pints of ice cream were responsible for my Covid lockdown pounds. I really miss them. :hearts: Not the pounds.

I heard David Chang talk about the spot next to Antico Nuevo as something to explore – Gon Ji Am (https://maps.app.goo.gl/QgJDrQcQMJB4d1bD6)

Looks like it has been written about twice here on FTC, as far as a cursory search goes.
