The Bay Area’s first spizzicheria is headed to Berkeley

Finally remembered to try this place. During aperitivo hour (4:00-6:30) you get a free sampler of their pizze and focaccie when you order a drink. Three of us shared a bottle so we got three pieces each of four items. The mushroom was particularly good. Selection rotates from day to day, I heard someone asking about the “black pie” but they didn’t have it yesterday.

Also got the farinata, as good as I’ve had. Arancine weren’t quite on that level but were good enough that I’ll probably order them every time.

The wine list was very much like similar places I’ve been to in Italy, a chalkboard list of appellations or grape varieties without further details (Vermentino, Verdicchio, Soave, Lambrusco, Negroamaro, Nebbiolo …), some of them crossed out because they’d run out. Got the Vermentino, which was a fruity, crowd-pleasing Vermentino di Gallura Superiore. Nice sidewalk seating.

I expect we’ll be back often.
