The Kebabery - South Berkeley

Camino spinoff in the old Salsipuedes space should open soon.

Have you (or any FTC peeps) gone?

It’s on my to-try list.

We went last night after aperitivo time at the Punchdown. It is an attractive little spot, and fits the ever-expanding business model of stand up to order, food comes to you. As with Camino, no tips.

3 types of skewers available. Lamb, chicken and king trumpet mushroom. I had a lamb skewer plate ($15). This is well-seasoned ground lamb, and the plates come with 2 sides. I chose the carrot salad and sauerkraut. Both were good, but the award goes to the carrot salad. (I didn’t’ see the mashed eggplant option as what was likely a daily special until it was too late.) Choice of flatbread or lentils. I had the flatbread. Very tasty, although I suggest you move it quickly because it was starting to soak up the salad juices.

We shared the tasty shoestring potatoes, and each had a cup of rosé.

Counter ordering, limited menu, reasonable pricing, lower rent - hopefully this is a good recipe for their success in this location.

I would not hesitate to return.

And wouldn’t you know, a day after eating there, HRH Bauer wrote up the place, in today’s Chron (although when I just searched for the story online, it is dated the 21st).

And so we did, on the way home from the Punchdown. I had the same thing as last time (lamb kebab plate) with carrot salad, and this time, one of the day’s special salads, a tomato salad. The carrot salad was great, as before, but that tomato salad was fantastic (just sliced tomatoes, seasoned with something very tasty).

While we were sitting there, another couple (who had never been) ordered one of every salad and one of each skewer and they just effed up their food, especially raving about the salads.

No fries nor wine this time.

They’re in my neighborhood but were never open when I thought of going there or ordering takeout.

Unfortunate. I’m maybe half a mile from them and at least had the chance to try a few things in the last couple months. A bit on the pricy side for the amount of protein you got, but ingredient quality was high.
