Not an expert but I believe that is an authentic Dongbei dish. I think multiple regions have a “sweet and sour”.

being near north korea, the korean version tangsuyuk has clear influences on the dongbei version which IMO is one of the more refined versions.

Alhambra branch of Happy Harbor has closed.

That’s the claim, and I can see it, though some further south might contest it. Origin stories for different dishes are often contentious.

Guobaorou at a legit Dongbei-style restaurant is an eye opener for anyone only familiar with Americanized Chinese “sweet & sour.”

The only place I know that had those is the now closed Happy Kitchen in San Gabriel. Mom & Pop from Harbin.

you asked for a rec. now i know not to bother replying to any future requests.

Maybe it’s harder to convey over the internet but you read too much into that and in no way did I meant any malice/ill intent.

We received the clay pot to take home from our clay pot rice order at Ya Ma Tei. I guess this is part of their grand opening promotions. Cute little clay pot for personal size clay pot rice at home.

@secretasianman gets butt hurt if you don’t bow to him. (also I think the temple would be the ESGV thread no?)

I like Happy Buddha in Rosemead for vegetarian vietnamese. Also Thien Tam for vietnamese.

For something quick and cheap - sweet veggie in el monte

I hear vege valley is really good but I haven’t gone.
