Additional note about Mérida: I recommend Manifesto for pour over coffee. Up to par with LA. All Mexican coffees.

WooT!! What amazing reportage! So glad you guys are eating well and hopefully having a lovely time. So glad you were able to get to Campeche… one thing about Campeche… the Panuchos are different there and SUPER tasty. Cousin in Law is a proud Campechana and it’s wonderful the area is getting more spotlight. Lovely folks.

Thanks for your support! It has been a great trip. The food has been very good. The drive from Bacalar to Campeche was long but definitely worth it, in part because we stopped at Calakmul and we drove along the ocean at Champoton. Campeche is a nice city with a surprising cosmopolitan element. It’s too bad we didn’t get to try the Campeche panuchos.

Le Kaat. Vegetarian restaurant in Valladolid.

Warrior: 2.0 Warrior Points. With the exception of the tasty oat-banana pancakes, the food was dry and unappetizing. The mushrooms had dirt in them. The kitchen took 1.5 hours to prepare the meal.

YAKUNAJ. Valladolid

Warrior: We wanted to try Ix Cat Ik, but it was fully booked (and their online reservation system is dysfunctional). So we tried Yakunaj. It was decent. Some execution mistakes (overcooked beets and shrimp, raw rice). But tasty overall. 3.1 Warrior Points.
Peony: While we were dining, the restaurant were playing music from old English songs. Interestingly, they also played music from 2 very old Chinese songs! One of the song is linked below. Not sure why though - I didn’t see a big wave of Chinese customers there…

LA PERLA. Playa Del Carmen

Warrior: 2.3 Warrior Points. The food was decent but bland. Chilaquiles in LA are usually better. The best thing was the champurrado.
