Bongo's - Bengali in Fremont

I don’t know anything about Bengali food. The most interesting-sounding dish was the shukti begun bhuna (“spicy dry fish with eggplant,” $10), which was fish, funky, and salty in a way that I’ve had previously only in African food. Seriously spicy. Parathas ($2 each) were good, buttery and flaky.

Since most of the Bengalis on Yelp mentioned it, I got the goat rezala (“mutton curry mixed with yogurt, authentic spices, and herbs,” $11), which turned out to be neck. Delicious though the lamb dishes at nearby Mumbai Chowk might be a little more exciting. Not spicy at all, at least compared with the fish. I was happy they gave me a lot of raw onion to eat with it (covered with cucumbers and lettuce in the photo).

That was more than enough food for one, I took half the fish home.
