ESGV Updates (Rowland Hts., Hacienda Hts., etc.)

[quote=“A5KOBE, post:42, topic:2106, full:true”] Oddly, it is called a diner but really is a buffet.

That’s why it’s unique.

Thanks. Sounds interesting.

More changes in the eternally changing Pacific Plaza food court:

O’Heavy Noodles, the JTYH spin-off, is gone, replaced by Wu’s Kitchen, a crayfish specialist.

And, then there’s this goat/lamb intensive place with signage only in Chinese:

In the plaza itself, 99 Tasty Duck might not have ever opened.

No more buffet at Sam’s. Reopening as a regular restaurant later this week.

Wow that was quick. Thanks for the update.

That must have been a really good deal for the customers while it lasted.

Sam’s Unique Diner will reopen on 6/28 supposedly. I have to say, the space is monstrous and the patio is pretty gigantic for patios. I am sure the rent on that space is quite high. They gave me a 10% off card for being closed.

Also, some place called Szechuan Chef is opening up next to Green Island in Chino Hills. Guppy House is now going to be some place called Green House in that same center.

Taiwanese snack place Yummy Hero moved to 18403 Gale Ave. in City of Industry (it’s a bit east of Kang Kang Food Court and west of The Home Depot). Replacing it in the center at Colima & Fullerton is…another Taiwanese snack house, Chiou House.

I just noticed that the Honda Ya on Azusa and Railroad in City of Industry is now called Ojiya.

since he’s too modest to mention it himself, jim t.'s most recent article in eater covers primarily new ESGV additions: Witness the Return of a Chengdu Icon in the San Gabriel Valley - Eater LA

I can’t seem to locate the mentioned “Little Yunnan” stall in Pacific Plaza Food Court, Rowland Heights, on yelp. Is it under a different name?

Thanks!

@JThur01???

Apparently, it just hasn’t been reviewed on Yelp yet. That seems be happening more and more often. Ask chandavkl about that.

Thanks barry. While I am rather modest, it’s mainly because I don’t want to abuse the forum through self-promotion.

Thanks! Yeah, either that, or it’s on yelp under a romanization of its Chinese name. See Wang Xing Ji / Long Xing Ji / Super Juicy Dumpling in Focus Plaza.

I wish yelp had a search by exact address function, sometimes…

Beijing Tasty is open. They had soft opening last night with limited menu.

Thanks for the report. I noticed that when making my rounds yesterday. It looked pretty close to opening a couple of weeks ago.

Surprisingly stable in the area over the last couple of weeks. That means all heck will break loose as I prepare the update

I noticed they were busy working on the space at the front of Diamond Plaza that was formerly home to HG Cafe, Beijing Pavilion, Green Village, etc.

A couple updates that I couldn’t find space to report on over the last couple months…

The eastern branch of Qingdao Bread Food closed and was replaced by another hot pot joint, Friendly Hi Pot. So something from the Otterbein area. With Otterbein disappearing from maps, I vow to use the former town name as often as possible

And, for those in the area with fond memories of it, Casablanca is being converted into a place called Cafe Gunul.

They had this posted on their door. I ate next door at Midoh last night.
