June 2016 Weekend Rundown

This was the second time I’ve had it in two weeks, does that answer your question? LOL! Great meat quality, nice char, it’s a very tasty piece of meat. The side of onions is horrible though. $45 for a 20 oz piece, I think it’s great value.

Yeah, it was alright. But we were hanging out at Line hotel most of the afternoon playing games and drinking after the you eat now food pop up was done. It was an easy walk over there. Inexpensive enough, $5 to get in. There were plenty of decent food trucks and stands. Prices were very affordable. Some fun booths to check out and various stage shows.

I grabbed several free samples such as a full box of Lotte Chocolate pies, several snack boxes of a new pretzel flavor, some facial soap. There lots of samples being handed out of other items, you’d make your $5 admission back easily. I saw lots of people filling up a bag full of all the giveaways.

The area was well spaced out, the only super crowded areas were the food stalls later in the evening. Otherwise, lots of space to move and sit. Well organized, clean, lots of cleaning crews and security. It was a fun enough way for our group to spend a couple hours checking out things and enjoying the festive atmosphere noshing on some inexpensive good food before moving on to the next activity.

Bonus the location was close to HMS Bounty, perfect for drinks if you’re in the mood.

We didn’t know it was happening. It’s close enough for us that we should check it out anyway.

Are you referring to the Ktown night market? I think it’s only once a year. They had some banners up and down Olympic and Wilshire the couple of weeks beforehand. I think one of the what’s happening around LA newsletters mentioned it also.

K-town Night Market - Okay, so it was a little better than you first described. Maybe we’ll go next year. We decided not to go - other than it being a busy weekend for us - because the pictures of last years event looked really crowded (and young) and I couldn’t find many food pictures online. @Mattapoisett_in_LA there was also a notice on the Yelp events calendar in April.

Bulgarini Gelateria (Altadena)
Likely some of the best pasta in LA.
I dare say that the gnocchi is probably the best I’ve ever had. These light and airy pillows of potato dumplings just melted in my mouth…no chewing required at all. The recipes are belong to the owner’s grandmother…and you can feel it as you eat. The pesto was delightful.

The fettuccine with meat sauce so incredibly good, too! The pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente so the toothsomeness to it was a nice contrast to the aforementioned gnocchi. Loved it!

We also ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce. As far as spaghetti goes…this is a close second to Scarpetta’s spaghetti.

And you can’t come here without getting some frozen sweet treats. They didn’t have pistachio, so I had mascerated peach and zabaglione. Probably the most luxurious form of peaches and cream, I’ve ever consumed. My chocolate-loving sibling fell in love with the chocolate with sea salt…he’s coming back here later this week to eat it all, again. Sorry for the poor picture…I only remembered to take it after I had consumed about half of it in the dimly lit car.

Okay, so this is driving me crazy. I have been trying to entice my sister - an Altadena resident - to have a sister date at Bulgarini Gelateria. Pasta, gelato, Italian movie night! All she says is “Oh yeah. I’ve been there before.” Then no follow up. It’s not that she doesn’t want to see me. She just doesn’t seem that enamored with BG. I’m not as intrepid as @Chowseeker1999, and won’t make a special trip just to try this wonderful place… I want to kill 2 birds. Hey @ipsedixit, is there any way for me to send my sister @attran99’s great review?

Hmm, cut and past, and then downloand the pics?

Oh okay. I can do that. I thought there might be some techie way to do it, beyond my skill set :relaxed:.

Click the link button (next to the like button) and send the link to your sister.

Thanks @WesSabi. I will try that when I’m at my desk. So far, no can do from my smartphone.

How about a screenshot?

Just calibrate your expectations. The crowd does skew young. You’re not going to get mind blowing food that isn’t available anywhere else. It’s a thing to do on a spring weekend night. It was a hang out night for my buddies and I, then we moved on to other things.

Father’s Day - Pizzeria Mozza
I think the bloom is off the rose a bit.

Service was okay. Not what you’d expect from Mozza’s supposed caliber. One of the 3 hosts - the one who’s been there for years - was an ass about seating our party “when everyone arrives.” I get it… it’s a busy Father’s Day. But when we saw our nephew parking his car I informed them, and asked to be seated. I said we’ll even start ordering. He said he “won’t break the rules.” Keep in mind it’s a heat wave and we’re sitting outside. Anyway, our waitress was friendly. But informed us immediately we had to place our full order at one time. She served a generic prosecco, she said didn’t have a name, just a fleur de lis on the bottle. Prosecco is Italian right? They ran out of juice for mimosas. And we had a waitress change in the middle of the meal. When we were leaving, one of the hosts was really friendly. The ass didn’t even look up when we said goodbye to him.

Food: There were a few misses. The Fried Squash Blossoms were pillows of oil, chopped salad was chopped salad. I didn’t eat the Meatballs al forno, but had some of the sauce and slightly oily crostini… tasty. @PorkyBelly and @Porthos recommended the Wings alla diavola. They were a little over cooked, but really good, saucy and spicy. The Lasagne al forno was the star. Incredibly rich, creamy and savory w/the right amount of tomato sauce. I’m not a pizza lover. That’s why I like Mozza’s pizza . I’ll explain. They have a lot of non-pizza-ish toppings, and I like the crispy crust. We ordered so much food that I didn’t get my beloved Funghi Misti Pizza. But all the pizza selections were satisfying. We ordered the delicious Butterscotch Budino to go.

Pictures aren’t great, because we were sooo hungry.

Afterward we all went to my home to watch the historical Cleveland/Golden State championship game. All in all we had a great time together!

Nice report, thanks. Bummer about the maitre’d being a jerk.

Like you, I also enjoy their pizzas for their interesting toppings. You should check out their fresh farmers market English Peas with Guanciale Pizza when it’s in season.

That Lasagna sounds awesome! I’ll have to try it next time.

Hi @Chowseeker1999 -

Darn… They actually had the English Peas with Guanciale Pizza. I pretty much let everybody order what they wanted, and tried a bit of everything.

I’m not going to say for sure, before I try Angelini Osteria’s Lasagna Verde again. But, I think Mozza’s could rival it.
