On Lewers street, just off of the busy Waikiki drag is Lemona, a small and relaxing shave ice shop with some of the most refreshing shave ice on the island. Run by the very friendly Mamiko, Lemona is a great place to relax over some very fine, fresh-fruit and all-natural shave ice that is more like kakigori. Essentially everything is homemade; from the organic condensed milk, to the fresh fruit syrups, to even the azuki bean paste.
The menu is concentrated on fresh local fruits, and all of them (except the coffee and tea flavors) feature a touch of meyer lemon:
- Meyer Lemon (recommended with condensed milk)
- Pineapple
- Papaya
- Mango
- Strawberry with condensed milk
- Pomegranate
There’s also
- Matcha green tea (Ito En ceremony grade) with homemade azuki bean paste and/or condensed milk
- UCC Kona coffee
We discussed the possibility of other flavors in the future, like hachiya persimmon, Japanese chestnuts, or buckwheat tea!
It was delicious and so refreshing that we went back two days in a row.
