eater piece. I’m just curious how long they spend each night setting up/breaking down - their setup looks huge.

Hell yeah! Happy for them.

They’ve added Pad Kra Pao–anyone know if you can get it with tofu?

Pad Kra Pao report - bigtime downhill at Sanamluang Cafe. No holy basil/thai basil to speak of, no balance. Will continue to perfect at home! Rad Nah Silom is next up.

Nooo sanamluang was one of my favorite late night spots back in the day

I gave up on it years ago. Too greasy.

Radna Silom was a very happy addition to the neighborhood. Some of the best radna, pad see ew, and pad thai around (and I ever had!). Next to them on the weekend was a boat noodle stall, Mae Malai.

Well Mae Malai now has a brick and mortar at the Ralph’s on Hollywood x Western. Parking!

Boat Noodles.

FYI these are small bowls. You might need 2-3 to get full.

Never had Pa Ord’s. I like Sapp’s broth a little more. Sapp’s is more complex. There are some service issues since they just opened. The broth is definitely more thick here.

That’s a first lol

I would probably give them a few weeks to work things out tbh

You are reading my mind posting about boat noodles. Had Sapp’s version today and was pretty floored. Couldn’t imagine anybody in LA was doing them better, but what do I know?

I had great boat noodles at Luv2Eat a few years back but the dish was not at all similar to Sapp’s.

Check out Bradley Lai latest ig post.

New roast duck and stir fry specialist by a former Thai restaurateur.

On Yelp it’s Roasted Duck by Paord.

Same plaza as Carousel/Darabar next to Friends x Family. Check out the no-tell motel across the street with the sweet murals.

Also foodmento raves about Thai Central Cuisine steamed fish with lime/garlic/herbs. This is one of my favorite fish dishes had it a few times at Fish Cheeks in NYC.

There is never one absolute source of anything in this city. Just way too much ground to cover and the communication landscape is way too fragmented and each has their own subculture that values different things. That is why I am super appreciative of those who are in their own little nooks and crannies who then comes and shares with us.

Mae Malai’s boat noodles killed me during their Radna Silom-adjacent street phase. their brick and mortar holds up to that standard. it’s not a tremendously large bowl, but it is inexpensive for the quality you get. there is a complexity that takes me back to the motherland.

Sapp’s version is fantastic, nothing wrong with it, but this one hits all the senses perfectly for me

I’ll have to come back and try it. I thought Sapp’s was a little more complex and interesting.

Mae Malai’s, and Paord Roasted Duck are great additions to Thai Town.
