Latest occupant of the old Templebar space, opened a year ago. If I heard of it, I forgot. I was craving a burger, currently there’s not much open after 8pm on a Wednesday, and that’s quiz night at Triple Rock, so it’s packed and noisy as hell.
4bells is sort of a sports bar, but I don’t think anyone was paying much attention to the TVs, sound was off. Maybe that would be different during a live game with local interest. Full bar, small selection of draft beers.
Back-n-Forth burger was $15 on the Berkeley Restaurant Week menu (usually $16), which also has a $20 combo of any burger and a choice of several cocktails. Properly medium-rare as ordered. 8-ounce patty and comes with fries so relatively a lot for the money. Fries were tasty at first but got soggy as soon as they cooled off. Onion rings ($10) were excellent, must have some rice flour or the like in the batter as they stayed crisp and crunchy. East Brother was $8 a pint.
I’ll go back to try the wings and ribs. Wings are half the price at happy hour, maybe the portion is smaller.
Menu on their web site is out of date, here’s a current one from Yelp:
