Oliboli Donuts (Tustin)

Clockwise (from top right): raspberry-lychee, Harry’s Berries strawberries, peach, pizza with house buttermilk ranch, banoffee.

That Harry’s Berries doughnut is ridiculous.

A pint of the Antico Nuovo strawberry ice cream really hits the spot…

Agreed. Their strawberry donut is phenomenal.

Now make an ice cream sandwich with that strawberry donut and Antico’s strawberry ice cream…

Heritage BBQ Oceanside. Full bar. Lot of seating lot of parking lot of TVs. A very nice experience. Completely different than the OG.

All the food was great. My son devoured the burger. Love these smoked wings. Brisket was better than our last 2 trips to the OG.

Have you had og? Any appreciable difference in bbq?

Yes been to the OG 4-5 times. The BBQ at Oceanside was great. Same excellent flavor in the ribs and brisket. I think the food tasted better since we didn’t have to wait and hour and there was ample seating.

Unrelated but everybody in our family thought the BBQ was way better than our last excursion to Smoke Queen.

Meals by Genet: Peony seemed to like it. I thought it tasted like average-at-best Ethiopian this time and remembered it being better. Tofu tibs were the surprising standout: loved the browned exterior and clarified butter flavor.

Based on your later post, I assume you mean just (or mainly) in terms of ambiance, correct?

Yes. Table service, plenty of seating, no lines and the menu at Oceanside is more expansive. Tacos, sandwiches, meat combos and full bar. There are less bbq options at Oceanside though. No sausages, beef rib, pork belly or burnt ends.

Amalia’s (Guatemalan). A reminder that there are dozens if not hundreds of unsung restaurants around town that make quality food. Good seafood soup, pollo asado, and chipilin tamales.

Ops/Leo, a sourdough place in Brooklyn, pop up at Pscyhic Wines 6th Anniversary Party.

Dough was quite good, pizza wasn’t. Not totally fair to judge them on Gozneys. The floor/stone doesn’t have enough thermal mass to crank out hours of pizza. Undercarriage was gummy and pale. And glopping on canned Bianco di Napoli pizza sauce overpowered everything.

is this from this season or your deep freezer supply from seasons past?

Got coffee at Aquarela yesterday (twice actually). Fantastic! Got the chopp in the morning because I enjoyed the name (that’s basically “cold draft beer” in Brazil) and it was hot outside and it really hit the spot between the salt + lime + coffee somehow it all worked. Then just had a regular old iced coffee a few hours later and I loved that as well.

Have been partial to their beans, at least for espresso, recently.
