The folks at Buzzfeed did a Worth-It segment on Fish Tacos, featuring Ricky’s, Coni’s and Holbox,

Internet is too slow at work, so I’ll have to watch it at home later tonight. Gotta say that the title sounds kinda porno.

I can’t seem to put my finger on it but these videos really irk me. And I’m not very irkable and generally find something to like about things.

Honestly… I can’t stand these guys. They talk too much and have no credentials. Why should I trust their taste buds? But this one wasn’t as annoying as a lot of the others. I think they finally learned to STFU and let the chefs do most of the talking…

That’s funny. @Dommy and I we’re noting this was the least irksome one of these we’d ever seen.

Yea, I actually got through this one.

I think it’s the fact that they’re trying to make it all entertaining and buzzworthy with corny jokes etc. I just want a serious inquiry of the food/place/chef

Worth It is probably the only series I like that Buzzfeed puts out. I think they’re great in a not so serious about food way. Sometimes we take food way too seriously here on FTC.

Didn’t mind it at all, but I think that was mainly b/c I was primed to hate it from the thread, and I was pleasantly surprised. I also think it’s b/c the 2 hosts seemed to clearly and genuinely enjoy the food, and I liked hearing the owners talk (Ricky was trained as a lab tech!!!). I had no idea the PZ had SO much margarine… And I had no idea “Holbox” was pronounced “Holbosh.” ::sigh::

I can imagine, though, that if this is the toned-down version, the first versions might well have been rather intolerable.

Also, the title (of the video) is (purposely) misleading since the “$30 taco” feeds, like 4-6 pretty easily .

I too have had some issues with this series, and I kept wondering - how did they get this gig? Is it because they are adorable and well coiffed? Willing to eat anything? Dunno.

I DO know that this video made Andrew much more appealing to me - he owns his ineptness and is respectful to the chef.

Well apparently they have a following since Gilberto Jr and his crew have been slammed since the video came out. And we had to find a table around the corner to have our Scallop Aguachile and soft shell crab.

Its was and may still be the most watched Youtube series right now.

Personally I like these guys, Steven comes from an Asian background and I find his taste sensibilities relatable.

As for what makes these guys qualified to judge? Who cares, they are pretty representative of the general population who isn’t as discerning as the people who post on this board and they are giving free marketing to the businesses while encouraging more people to check out quality establishments. Before this series I bet most people in LA had never heard of Holbox or even knew of the existence of the Mercado La Paloma.
