Dead at Prime Burbank. Get your orders in if y’all want it.
Who offers green olives?
Green olives and banana peppers (not necessarily together) should be far more ubiquitous toppings…. SMDH
Sei!
Yesss which one was your favorite?
I just reheated leftover pizza in the air-fryer, it was better than the first day.
We were talking about Meatball Subs in the October Thread and I mentioned I had no tried Prime, so I had dinner free this week and went to go check it out. ONLY to be usurped by the El Segundo Fire Department!! The staff was really apologetic and said they get their bread fresh everyday and that the Fire Fighters took all that was left earlier in the day. I was sad, but then they came out with a fresh tray of Sicilian Pie… So pizza it was!!
It was a no brainer to get the fresh pie. And not surprising, it was the best slice I’ve ever had at Prime. It had all my favorite things, a wonderful tomato sauce (they use Bianco tomatoes) and Ricotta. A really nice Pesto and plenty of cheese!
For my second slice I got their current special, the Vodka Sauce Pie. Its a pink pie for breast cancer awareness month and a portion of the price is donated. I love Vodka sauce (The Serious Eats Recipe is my favorite) and this slice hit all the notes and was super rich. The Fresh Basil on it was very appreciated.
So… next time… be faster than the Fire Fighters!!

Has anybody tried Zero Zero 39 Roman style pizza at the Anaheim Packing District? I guess they have another location in Huntington Beach.
Came up on my feed a couple times recently and I really miss Il Romanista.
Pizza party at my house!
Schellz is as good as ever. Light airy dough with a great balance of toppings. Detroitish and crispy without feeling over heavy or greasy.
Tried tavern style for the first time ever at rances. Not sure the cheese that they were using but maybe it’s provel? Super gooey and meaty.
I am a convert this bar pie is out of this world and it even included some sub optimal cooking on my part/due to the cooking instructions. I followed the take and bake instructions but the top was well cooked before the under carriage could get cracker crispy, I think this happens because these pizzas cook directly on a deck while we have to use pans at home. I solved this by finishing the crust on a stove pan. Can’t wait to try one with the insanely crisp crust like the pictures I saw from quarter sheets.
Will be ordering rances again!
Got a special delivery from @JeetKuneBao. Thanks!
Some secret pizza action.
It actually looked like it was meant to be reheated as there was still what seemed to be like bench flour on the crust.
I did two reheats one the recommended manner in a pan with some steam kinda like how they make cheeseburgers on the griddle. The other I did in my trusty toaster oven. The griddle came out much crispier with a better melding of cheese and sauce. However the top of the dough becomes soft kind of like a steamed cheeseburger bun which I didn’t love.
I thought the pizza was pretty good on the reheat seems to be a pretty standard ny style slice. The cheese mix is not as interesting as prime and I would say that’s a better slice.
Does not touch the top echelon of pizza in the city such as Bianco or sei.
I love a classic NYC regular slice but honestly I think Pizzeria Sei is the best pizza in LA atm. I like Quarter Sheets too also hitting the nostalgia factor with that Pizza Hut ish buttery crust. I like Shins concept and menu but not quite the execution. Prime is pretty solid and consistent. Quite good for a local chain.
Outside of the NYC/NJ/CT/PA area I think LA actually has a pretty good pizza scene now with the strong point being the variety of styles available.
Get a pizza stone.
LA pizza scene is great now…Quite a sea change from when I moved here in the 90s!
So, is this Schellz joint an actual pizzeria or is it some kind of order on your iPhone with a app and go pick it up?
I believe they have an actual store you can pick up at too, but you’ll have to eat it in your car. I’ve never been to the actual store that’s just my understanding.
Eater LA says Superfine is back open on the weekends. Their pies when they first opened up were amongst the best in LA. There is some type of partnership with Creature Comforts, an Athens, GA brewery I had no idea opened up in LA. They make some good brews.
last time I was at Superfine they were making Neapolitan style pizzas…excellent…but the previous several times it was thin crust NY style, which I definitely preferred! I dont know what their pies are like now…
