Never been to Maison Akira but I enjoyed a few visits to Azay. Was he the first in the LA area to do Japanese-French?

Yes, AFAIK… Chef Tomy Harase was also a contemporary of Akira-san, in this respect. Anybody remember his Nouveau Cafe Blanc, on Little Santa Monica?

Chef Takashi Iwasaki also recently passed from that same generation he worked all over but had a restaurant called Ducz in Pasadena.
