When I see chili on a menu it usually bores me and I haven’t made it in decades. This is downright inspiring. Which of those listed are pureed?
Look at where the commas are.
All the canned, whole tomatoes and half of the kidney beans were pureed
The comma before “and” (or comma before “or”) at the end of a list is optional. It’s referred to as an Oxford comma or serial comma. Most academic style guides recommend adding it (“salt, pepper, and paprika”). But it’s also not a grammatical error to write a list without it (“salt, pepper and paprika”).
It wasn’t at the end of the list.
ground beef,
kidney beans,
tomatoes and kidney beans pureed to give a good consistency,
onions,
chili powder,
chipotle with adobo,
coriander,
garlic powder,
cumin and
oregano

This thread displays quite a bit of obstinate effort to not answer an honest question. And splits off information that added detail to the ingredient list. Cath’s original question and honks’s answer should be restored to the original thread. The rest of the bickering can go wherever.
