Corso - Berkeley

The 45-day dry-aged bistecca alla fiorentina (aka ribeye) for two ($49) is the best steak I’ve had in a restaurant in a while, even better than Alfred’s. Rapini with garlic and anchovy ($8) was a great foil. 2012 Riecine Chianti ($50) was delicious, vibrant 100% Sangiovese.

Started with the marinated mushrooms ($6) and Sierra mackerel en saor ($13), which had the classic flavor but untraditionally chewy, almost as if it had been made with dried fish. Good, just surprising.

Great value overall. The place was full but not particularly noisy.

cappelletti neri: squid ink pasta, salt cod, potato, garlic, cream, saffron butter, basically brandade ravioli, great dish

blécs with rabbit and I forget what all, delicious

With Alfred’s closed once more, again the best place I know to get a steak these days. Higher price is due at least in part to it being thicker. We took a lot home.
