Update 3:
Decided to go back and try Loqui again after all of the great follow-ups from everyone. Wanted to see if they were more like the opening week, or later visits.
Agua Fresca (Limonada):
This was pretty refreshing, citrusy and not too sweet.
Pork Tostada:
This was a daily special, sort of like a Cochinita Pibil. The Pork Shoulder was really tender and juicy. The flavor profile was definitely like Cochinita Pibil, but not as complex unfortunately. It was mainly salty-savory, not that interesting.
Mushroom Taco:
So the 3rd visit Mushroom Taco was much better than the 2nd visit. It was delicious and reminiscent of my 1st visit, really umami and crave-worthy!
But thanks to @Dommy’s rec for their Salsa Seca, which is a new Dry Salsa they have up front. You can add it to any Taco and it’s not that spicy. It just adds this delicious nutty, fragrant note to each bite!
So for the 4th visit, wow, the Mushroom Tacos were even better! And the Flour Tortilla was solid.
Carne Asada Taco:
3rd and 4th visits yielded the same thing for the Carne Asada: The Carne Asada (Tri Tip) was tender, juicy, but it had almost no smokiness. The back of the house cooking the Tortillas were also new staff (different from opening week when I first went).
On the positive side both the Carne Asada and Mushroom Tacos’ portions are dramatically increased. I’d say about 25% - 33% more portion than their opening week (at the same price) so it’s feeling more fairly priced.
I also ended up trying Sonoritas as a comparison.
Sonoritas
Started with their Aguas Frescas (Cucumber, Lime, Pineapple):
It was too sweet.
Liked their free Chips & Salsa (3 types of Salsa):
Carne Asada Taco (Angus Beef Carne Asada, Guacamole, Pickled Red Onion, Flour Tortilla):
They claim to use Mesquite Charcoal as well (and I could see the grill). However, I got almost no smokiness from Sonoritas, and their Carne Asada was full of gristle and chewy. It was the most gristly Carne Asada I had (from the dozen or so places I tried the past year).
And as @Bigmouth said, Sonoritas’ Flour Tortillas were definitely a notch below Loqui’s (very noticeable). They just felt bland and kind of “there”.
Rib Eye Taco:
However, Sonoritas’ Rib Eye Taco was much better than their regular Carne Asada. Thanks to @aaqjr for the rec! It was indeed tender, and juicy and slightly smoky (more than the Carne Asada), but still very minimal compared to La Carreta.
I’d say if I was in the area, I’d be glad to pick up the Rib Eye Taco from Sonoritas if I was craving it.
At this point (4 visits), and hearing back from @theoffalo @Bigmouth @Dommy and many others, it’s clear that Loqui can’t seem to be consistent about maintaining that great Mesquite smokiness I got from their opening week (1st visit). The Carne Asada is still tender and their taco is tasty, but without the Mesquite backdrop, it results in a pricey “Beef Taco.” Their Mushroom Taco seems to be on the rebound however, and I thought it was about as tasty as my 1st visit, especially with the Salsa Seca tip from @Dommy elevating it even more.
So for great Carne Asada Tacos, I’m going with my first choice of La Carreta, and then… nothing else LOL. But I think their Mushroom Tacos are standout.
