Cutting Boards - Maple, Walnut or Cherry?

Shopping for a solid wood (no glue) cutting board. Not sure what type of wood to choose. Any advice?

I prefer maple but anything he carries will be good

Okay, maple it is.

In doing research - including the link to Boardsmith - I’m finding that end-grain is preferable to solid wood. The only solid wood on their site is a charcuterie board… Hmmm. Users say end-grain requires less maintenance, is easier on the knives and is surprisingly pricier. It’s what butcher’s block is made of and seems to be chefs’ preference. However, it is decidedly not a solid piece of wood but rather glued together. #dilemma #musings.

Good luck whatever you choose! I do prefer end grain wood boards but there are good solid piece boards out there as well

This Japanese Hinoki wood is an example

If you like that one I’d get the stand for it as well. Just to help out dry evenly after washing nothing more frustrating than having a nice cutting board warp! They sell it separately

Bought it. Will use it for a while then report.

I clicked on their link for the stand. It requires an account with Shopify with a bunch of questions just to view it and Shopify states that they “share” your info. Thanks for the honesty but I’ve got enough spam lol. I’ll call directly or find one someplace else.
