El chato sucking lately?

Husband went tonight. He got his favorite pastor burrito, and switched it up with a lengua taco. He said the taco was as good as his favorite place for lengua, Chema’s in Whittier.

Did they add stuff to the menu? The tacos went up .25.

they never used to have mulitas but i haven’t been there in years

Look at El Chato upgrading :grinning:. Did you go? Or is this a downloaded picture?

No, I went. Last night and the night before.

So is it sucking lately?

no, it was good. Not great like it used to be though.

El Chato, IMO is/was one of the best non-specialist taco truck/stand.

If you guys are ever in Downtown or the Eastside, head to 7th and Soto in Boyle.

Taco El Pecas, was a former offshoot of El Chato.

Looks great. A. went Sunday but they weren’t there. He loves El Chato! You are the one who actually solved the mystery of why he likes the pastor more than Leo’s. El Chato puts it on the flat top to add some burnt crispy bits. Or something like that?

yes. but you can order them to do that at leo’s too… there’s a name used for that, but you’d have to ask a mexican for the nomenclature.

Does anybody know exactly when they’re there? Or is it random? There IG page hasn’t been updated since 2016.

Friday, Saturday nights. Maybe Thursday too.

unless things have changed:

El Chato used to scrape Pastor off the spit which then went into a holding bin. Meat is pulled from the bin then crisped up on the griddle when tacos are ordered.

Leo’s will generally just cut it off the trompo UNLESS there isn’t enough crispy bits, in which case they’ll cut the pastor right onto the griddle, crisp it up, and then throw it on a taco. No holding bins involved when the trompo is out.

If I tell him that he’ll dig in and say “Well, I like El Chato’s meat better”. The man cannot be swayed. I’ll give it another try. :slightly_smiling_face:

There’s absolutely no need to change it up if he’s happy. I liked it last weekend but al pastor v al pastor it’s no contest. we got a couple of them, drenched in sauce to the point of masking the fake trompo’ed meat

Yep, he’s happy. I don’t really eat at either. I like to give him this kind of info just to see if he bites. He never does.
