Eater LA 2024 article

3333 N. Eastern, LA, CA
Closed Sunday and Monday; opens at 11AM and serves through dinner time

They maintain their IG pretty well, and I’d check that if there are questions regarding hours. I rarely go to Smorgasbord so maybe they’re steadily there?
They don’t currently have a functioning website so I have made an effort to link to online info at other places.

This couple have been on my “I want to support and eat” radar for a while. I know it pinged with me during the pandemic as they were serving high quality moderately expensive meals out of their home during the pandemic. They’ve been at the brick and mortar in El Sereno for the last few years, and occasionally make over their moderately priced quality taco place with patio to a fine dining prix fix dinner spot.

Their kamikaze 5 course dinner was last night, and I’m hoping to go back as I really enjoyed it! The dinner was a fundraiser as the restaurant website has been targeted by a troll ADA lawsuit and its troubles are ongoing. Awesome merch here.

I took no photos however the restaurant was capturing the evening for its own purposes so I’ll update this post when it goes up.

The dinner was $99/pp + tax and automatic gratuity. I paid a supplement to sit at one of the eight kitchen counter seats. My dining companion and I loved our meal and thought the pricing could be higher.

The only photo I took all night.

Course 1
Alex’s mother’s homemade delicous bread. Clam chowder topped with string onions and edible flowers. [I had a quick substitution with a red sauce and potatoes. My apologies on the lack of detail. My brain is a sieve.]

Course 2
Ceviche Tempache

Course 3
Gordita companada
stuffed with three cheeses and plated with two sauces. The sauces were EXCELLENT like I want more.

Course 4
Tortlini with black beans

Course 5 - dessert
Mexican halo halo
With flan; ice; a few types of sugars; semi frozen dairy dessert ’

The dinner included a few wine pours and a small, delicious thimble of mezcal at conclusion. If you’re a non-drinker I saw topo chico and other soda in the restaurant fridge.

the restaurant is tiny and reflects the love for the heavy metal scene. There was no heavy metal playing however, much to my silent relief. I’m looking forward to lunch one of these days and checking out what this place does on the regular-degular.
