I saw that, walking by one. There used to be a Szechuan shrimp that I got on my first (and so far, only) visit to Panda Express this past May.
I did not like this. Not one bit at all.
The bun ratio was too high. There was too much sauce and toppings inside. The beef was not seasoned…I felt like I was chewing on a sponge.
The spicy ketchup required stirring with a French fry for you to find any hint of jalapeño and it was not spicy.
Why do people like this place?
Thank God there was a Waffle House down the street.
This place makes me happy…and happier since we’d been traveling all day and everything was closed by the time we landed in the Midwest.
I’ve never had their food. That sounds good. Thanks.
LOL. I grew up in Atlanta and Waffle House was…is???..a go-to.
I tried Whataburger in TX years ago and was unimpressed. We have one not too far from us in AZ, but I haven’t been in. We have an In-N-Out close-ish, and we’re liking Culver’s. Haven’t been to Waffle House since we’ve been here. Maybe breakfast on Saturday.
What strikes us the most about Waffle House is that the service is so warm and friendly from the moment we walk in. The waffle is crisp and so are the hash browns. The reasonable prices round out the experience.
Fifty and more years ago my parents were regulars at one for breakfast. If they didn’t have a booth available, the server would pass them mugs of coffee to have while they waited. Nice little memory.
On a recent trip to Zion National Park we stopped at a Culvers on the way there and back. Hadn’t been since 2006 and some of it held up pretty well! Didn’t love the burgers as much as I remember but would totally order their pot roast, fish and maybe the pork loin sandwich with the right condiments. Still super into the fact that you can order ice cream and get a ticket to pick it up after your meal.
What do you like at Culvers?
I didn’t like Whataburger as well.
I just realized Panda’s Beijing beef is a play on the banquet favorite Peking pork chops.
Gotta get the frozen custard at Culver’s.
Hell yeah. I forgot they have daily flavors, too. I think they’re just a base flavor like vanilla with mix-ins but still awesome
Spent a year in Wisconsin and the fish sandwich at Culver’s has the be the best fast food fish sandwich. Arby’s in second place.
Damn I went to college in Wisconsin for 4 years and never had the fish sandwich at Culver’s. Very mad at myself.
We mostly stick to burgers, which we think are very good from a QPR standpoint. It seems like most fast food burgers just don’t appeal to me anymore. Their custard is great, too. The salted caramel concrete with cashews and extra malt is a winner, too. I definitely need to try the fish sandwich.
Nice, gotta try that next time!
We were also into the fish sandwich and the pot roast sandwich (and the hamburger, honestly) but we concluded you have to be a little judicious about the garnishes and condiments. Whatever the default garnishes were in the sandwiches seemed a little bland but when we picked our own on the second visit the sandwiches were pretty dang good.
Hopefully I’m not overselling this sandwich!
I do remember that I had the Walleye version which is only available during Lent.
I love custard!
They had a Freddy’s in the OKC airport and the custard there (both vanilla and chocolate) were pretty good considering we were in an airport.
Haven’t tried the custard at Freddy’s, but we had their burgers when we were at a wedding in Surprise a few years ago. We don’t have one super close to us, but close enough that it’s time to go back. I think I know what’s for lunch today or tomorrow.
A friend got extra meat at Chipotle at $6.75 for one extra scoop of asada. A burrito bowl is $12 something for perspective.
I am glad fast food workers are getting a higher hourly wage but at the same time in So Cal we have plenty of options. Fast food costs the same as hole in to wall mom n pop why would anyone go to fast food anymore?
