Ferro - Idyllwild

Probably one of the nicer places to have dinner at while you’re in town. It’s located close to the city center in a 2 story building with a front patio and back courtyard. They have live music on the weekends, so reservations book up fast.
We were lucky that they were able to give us a table upstairs inside last minute. Apparently, things in town slow down around 7PM, too.
They’ve a full bar in addition to wine & beer, they also have a shrub program where they make make their own non-alcoholic drinks. They kind of remind me of agua frescas. This weekend, I saw blackberry-lime, peach, and raspberry amongst the flavors available. There are a few mocktails, too.
The menu is pretty expansive and Italian-inspired. Caprese, burrata, salad, pastas, pizzas, and secondi of roasted/grilled meats. We picked and assortment of things from the menu.
The house made bread is delightful with sweet cream butter. There’s a crust and a wonderful fluffy center.
The roasted whole prawns were probably less ideal because I don’t think they were peak freshness and they were slightly undercooked.
Grilled broccolini with garlic, onions, and crushed red pepper were good.
Their thin crust pizza had a wonderfully crispy crust.
We had a mishap with the ribeye. It was sent out charred and completely overcooked. We informed them and would have been happy for them to just take it off the check entirely as we were full, but they insisted on providing us with a fresh one boxed up to take back to our hotel. They were apologetic for sending out a subpar product and wanted us to know that their food was good.
Dessert was their seasonal fruit crostata with vanilla gelato. While the gelato was a touch icy, the crostata was quite good.
Cocktails were great.
Service was really impressive. They checked on us often. Offered us change in plates and silverware. Water refills without requests. And the fact that they insisted on sending us out with an entree that they took off the bill was really nice. It was warm and welcoming.
We were pretty happy to find this Ferro in Idyllwild.

Have eaten there twice during the pandemic :mask:. Pretty good especially the rabbit cacciatore. Once we did takeout and took back to our rental because it’s pretty chilly on the patio when the temps get down there. The steak and minestrone were really high quality for such a small town.

Haven’t tried the other Italian joint. Can’t remember the name.
