We’ll be in town for about day before hopping on a ship to the Caribbean in March. We’re traveling with friends, currently no kids on this trip. What’s delicious to eat? Casual meals preferred because I don’t know what everyone’s budgets are for vacation eating (so about $20-30 per person including tax and tip, but not including drinks). All cuisines open to consideration. Bonus points for Key Lime Pie locations…it’s my husband’s favorite and we try to try as many places as we can while in Florida.
Thanks!
For future lurkers. I had a pleasant Nicaraguan meal at Hacienda del Sol in Fort Lauderdale.
I’m close by in Delray Beach visiting friends and there probably aren’t many good places to eat. Nobody here is wearing a mask. The cheese steak at midnight was pretty good.
Pizzacraft Artisan Pizzeria in Ft Lauderdale. Portnoy gave them an 8.1. Good crispy no flop pies. Nice distribution of cheese and sauce. Added spicy aoppressata to the sausage pie which was balanced with sweet onions. Very happy. The spicy rigatoni vodka wasn’t Carbone level but cooked to a nice al dente. Good balance in the sauce with some heat, fresh tomato flavor and cream. Would be happy eating these any time.
Reviving this thread in case anyone else can recommend a spot that hasn’t been listed!
Larb Thai-Isan could possibly be the greatest Thai spot in all of the country. Not that I’ve eaten a lot at Thai spots outside of LA, but this place beats Anajak, Night + Market, Holy Basil, Jitlada, etc. by a mile. Highly recommend!
Other noteworthy Ft. Lauderdale spots:
Coconuts
Southport raw bar
MAASS
Nour Thai Kitchen
The Katherine
Heritage
Rustic Inn
Schuck and Dive
Just got back from a three week trip. I previously said Larb Thai-Isan is the greatest, but I retract my statement; Nour Thai Kitchen is in fact the best Thai food I’ve ever experienced. Their bar manager is pretty well known in the craft cocktail community, and everything I tried (went three times) was drool worthy. The owner is a very nice guy travelled to his husbands village in Thailand to learn how to cook. Highly recommend coming here if you’re ever in the vicinity.
MAASS just got their first star, and the food is good, but it feels very “hotel restaurant”.
Rustic Inn is pure fun, everyone whacking their tables with mallets for every birthday celebration.
I ordered the golden crab, a species native to Florida, but supposedly hasn’t been on the menu since pre-covid.
Coconuts is also a great seafood spot right on the water.
Also stopped by Tam Tam and and Aviv in Miami, both are great options if you’re looking for a good dinner.
