It was really, really good. Interesting ingredients too, with some green peppercorns that gave it a little Sichuan vibe. Added the sous vide egg to it and, even if it’s not “authentic” it was a good addition.
Happy for you Johnny!
before this devolves any further, let me clarify that the point was not to question or indict the assumption as much get a handle on the reasoning, with the overall points being:
- the previous month’s poor showing was more due to lack of publicity vs. lack of interest.
- the more positive point that even despite inclement conditions, you underestimated your own drawing power - at least for the folks who can appreciate hainan chicken rice and similar dishes - once they were given ample notification of the event.
Back again tonight!
Trying to give a little more warning than last month. It’s happening again tomorrow night at Far East Plaza in Chinatown! And @JLee even has a name to go along with his new Hainan chicken business, opening in the SGV this summer: http://Instagram.com/eatsidechick
Beyond @jlee’s WORLD FAMOUS Hainan chicken rice, mi mija Ivy is doing Taiwanese charcoal roasted corn, as well:

hit GCM for the party, then Far East plaza for the after-party. By after-party, I mean open air open mic, and maybe some s’mores:

Is GCM actually having a party? I know they start their summer hours tomorrow night. Doing something tonight to kick it off?
is there an actual google-able name for this event?
Get it again tonight! And tomorrow, and next weekend. From @JLee’s Sidechick newsletter:
Upcoming Events for Sidechick Popup!
Only a few more popups left for the summer!
I want to thank everyone who has attended our popups so far, I feel as if we have really been able to improve the food and experience each time thanks to the consistent support and love we have been receiving in Chinatown. As we move into the middle of Summer I hope we can celebrate the weather together with chicken and rice! In case you can’t make it at nights I we will for the first time try lunch in Downtown at CoCo Fresh Tea in the Biltmore Hotel this Friday as well!
July 7th: Far East Plaza 5:30PM
727 N Broadway Ave, Los Angeles CA 90012
July 8th: Lunch Popup at Coco Fresh Tea
521 S Olive St, Los Angeles, CA 90013
July 16th: Chinatown Summer Nights @ Central Plaza 5PM
We look forward to seeing each and everyone one who can make it out to the events!
