Actually this doesn’t warrant a post of its own and is an addition to the SGV takeout restaurant thread, but apparently this board has a silly rule where a person can’t reply more than three consecutive times to the same thread. Henry’s Cuisine in Alhambra, which stunningly (at the time) temporarily closed down in early March, has reopened for takeout as planned after eight weeks.
Nice I had always wanted to check them out pre-COVID so might as well take the opportunity now in case it doesn’t happen again.
Hi Johnny. Henry’s Cuisine closed down again after just two days. New target is June 1.
Peony: My colleague from Guangdong recommended this place to me because he thinks the taste is authentic. (He also recommended Newport Seafood over Sea Harbour. We haven’t been to Newport.) I cannot comment on the authenticity because I am not Cantonese and don’t have a deep understanding of Cantonese food. When we arrived at the restaurant the majority of the people were speaking Cantonese, including the waiters and guests. The default language of the waitstaff was Cantonese (a sign of authenticity for me). My overall impression is the flavor is very light and delicate. So if that’s what you prefer, this will be a good option for light, comforting, homestyle food.
Warrior: Henry’s is solid. Quality ingredients, quality cooking. My main complaint is they served tea made from tea bags. I had to steep it myself and then put the wet tea bag on the table. Quality loose leaf tea is inexpensive and infinitely superior to ground-up bagged tea. Tea bags have no place in a decent restaurant. Shame on Henry.
