Sawtelle Update: Ramen Chikumo (chicken-based broth / paitan expert, with locations in Taiwan) is set to open next to the Alfred Coffee space in the Olympic Collection. I’m glad to see the return of a chicken-based bowl on Sawtelle. The last place with a good paitan ramen in Sawtelle Japantown was the (long since shuttered) Chabuya…
Saffy’s soft serve?
correct, thanks for playing “name that soft serve”
J Zhou is the best dim sum in the OC. Haven’t been to many SGV dim sum restaurants lately so hard to compare.
It’s too bad that we weren’t at the 90th birthday party in the private room. Saw trays of Peking duck, lobster, abalone and other goodies.
Ceci’s, the good Italian lunch place in Silver Lake, now offers dinner Thursday though Sunday. In addition to their regular menu, they have several flavors of focaccia di recco, which is the same or similar to the thin focaccia at Chi Spacca and Factory Kitchen. I don’t like any of these focaccia very much, but I would rank Chi Spacca easily the best, with Ceci’s 2 and Factory Kitchen 3. What’s authentic, I don’t know, as I never ate this in Italy. I do know the cheese in the Ceci’s and Factory Kitchen versions tastes too tangy for the thin dough, and they aren’t nearly as crispy and elegant as Chi Spacca’s.
Downtown, little Tokyo, Chinatown or echo park rec needed for dinner for 4 no sushi

@J_L How does the chef’s table at San Laurel work? Do we have call direct to make arrangements? I don’t see a sample menu online.
I would probably pick San Laurel, without knowing the group.
Lots of picks for San laurel definitely will be book marking that for later. Friends aren’t super adventurous eaters but the patio at San laurel looks pretty nice.
I would do camphor or camelia but they aren’t open on Wednesday.
Anyone been to Damian, dama, or yangban recently?
I would choose Damian of those three (easily the nicest setting) and rule out Yangban if they aren’t adventurous eaters. We find Dama meh. We live nearby and haven’t been in 2-3 years.
Other options to consider: Manuela and Redbird. For some audiences, Manuela and Salt + Straw after might be a winning combo.
Just ask for Chef’s Table when you call in the reservation. They don’t advertise it. My bad… I should have written this terrific meal up when I first tried it a while back.
Don’t go to Dama for the food though my non gourmand friends usually think the food is awesome. The space is very loud and fun and a great place to kick off a night out.
Was in the area (The Snard) so stopped for nature’s perfect keto breakfast. Carnitas El Rey.
Got a pound of mazisa. Amazingly tender!
Wait, is that the same as “Oxnard.” You gotta speak English for me, buddy!!!
See, you got it!!!
Love this place. The Cueritos here are LEGENDARY. So good…
