Kalaveras Odd Expansion

I’ve been following the rapid expansion of Kalaveras from their single location in Bellflower in 2016 to somewhere north of 18 locations open or coming soon this year. They seem to be haphazardly expanding into big, expensive spaces all over SoCal at a rapid clip, locations that are at times too close to each other or poorly located (directly across the street from El Cholo Santa Monica). They have decent reviews on yelp, but they don’t have any real reviews from anyone that matters in the food world. They don’t seem particularly successful or popular. Does anyone have an insight as to how they’re expanding so quickly?

And the one ~2 miles east on Pico about a block away from Don Antonio’s.

I’d be willing give the place a try, had it not been for the horrific purple lighting….

Kalaveras is a skip. You are not missing out on anything.

In the evenings, it’s more of a club-y/nightlife spot that happens to serve okay Mexican food and IG-friendly looking drinks. It’s trying to keep up with King & Queen Cantina from the Mr. Tempo group of restaurants.

Daytime, it’s a little more relaxed, but they tend to keep the same vibe.
