nice addition to the sushi scene especially for the sgv. had some minor issues with shari and packing but hopefully they can work that out. they’ll be opening for lunch in february offering a nigiri omakase or chirashi.

Oh COOL! It looks like a beautiful space, and so close to home! Thanks for the post; can’t wait to try it. I do hope Alhambra can support such a place.

just went for lunch - very enjoyable for $120. Had a great conversation with Chef Azumi. I’m surprised even with lunch they are preparing two different shari.
A small braised octopus starter
12 pieces of nigiri
1 hand roll
1 miso soup
1 piece tamago
I think the primary attraction of Kogane is the great sake pairing. The sake somm is enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The sushi is all good, but I didn’t find it special or a great value. The chef uses white vinegar for some toppings and red vinegar for others, in a way that makes sense. The rice style strikes me as “unobtrusive” but for the red vinegar. Everything tastes right. My minor complaints are that the nigiri are too small and the rice is sometimes not packed enough. Also, the fish selection seems a little downscale for the price.
