Oh COOL! It looks like a beautiful space, and so close to home! Thanks for the post; can’t wait to try it. I do hope Alhambra can support such a place.

just went for lunch - very enjoyable for $120. Had a great conversation with Chef Azumi. I’m surprised even with lunch they are preparing two different shari.

A small braised octopus starter
12 pieces of nigiri
1 hand roll
1 miso soup
1 piece tamago

All done in under 90 minutes.

Sounds like a super lunch. I admire their work ethic and respect for the customer. Fumio-san and Kwan-san run a tight ship at Kogane.

I’ve driven by that plaza so many times in my life and to open the door to that gorgeous sushi bar is a surprise in itself ha!

I’ve only admired the numerous kumquat trees in that plaza (won’t say that I plucked any )

It’s strange that this restaurant isn’t in the Michelin guide at all. we haven’t been yet.

I think the primary attraction of Kogane is the great sake pairing. The sake somm is enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The sushi is all good, but I didn’t find it special or a great value. The chef uses white vinegar for some toppings and red vinegar for others, in a way that makes sense. The rice style strikes me as “unobtrusive” but for the red vinegar. Everything tastes right. My minor complaints are that the nigiri are too small and the rice is sometimes not packed enough. Also, the fish selection seems a little downscale for the price.
