Leopardo - Hancock Park

Could be they had higher priorities such as trying to get enough staff for the shift and, after they decided that wasn’t going to happen, contacting people who had reservations.

there are lots of possible explanations

it’s interesting they didn’t post when they will reopen, just “Be back soon!”

Right. And basically no acknowledgment of the fire – there’s a contrast between them and how some other major LA restaurants have responded. Also, I wonder if last night’s “closed this evening” post didn’t just apply to last night, but is meant to apply for every night going forward until they say otherwise.

What if Leopardo is not a restaurant but a social experiment?

Does make for an interesting thread.

We tried to go tonight. They aren’t sure when/if they will reopen.

except he had no influence over Angler’s closing the first time or second time. He wasn’t part of it.

So you say counselor. I have no idea what went on behind the scenes.
I am just John Q Public. From my pov, his was the name on the marquee and he handled is job terribly, as far as messaging goes - and he’s repeating history now.
Had it been my name - on either marquee- I would have done everything I could to message the folks that supported me. He doesn’t do that.

Should they have posted their p&l on instagram?

When did Skenes split from Angler and Saison Hospitality?

Leopardo’s communications in general and social media in particular aren’t great. I believe that’s because Skenes is obsessively, arguably excessively focused on the ingredients and cooking. Personally I’m fine with that given the superiority of the results. I can also see why Chang gives him so much shit.

There are plenty of chefs who are so focused on ingredients and cooking who can communicate to their diners. Not saying Leopardo needs a “brand” or a killer social media profile but this is silly.

I love how the riding for Leopardo is so deep that we’re making excuses for this now lolol.

You’re not gonna go up to the restaurant to find out its closed and go “it’s okay, the superiority of the results makes it worth it”

You presumably don’t see Leopardo’s food as superior so have no reason to accept Skenes’s shortcomings outside of the kitchen.

My favorite bar used to close randomly when the owners decided to go camping on the spur of the moment. I learned to phone first.

The leopardo truthers are out of control, next we’ll be hearing that LA 101 was stolen and leopardo won lol.

Also the idea that most chefs are also doing their restaurants social media double lol.

I don’t see any restaurants food as superior enough to balance out bad hospitality that can be easily fixed or defended the way we do on this forum. Trust me if Leopardo closed tomorrow I’d grieve a good restaurant in LA but at the same time there’s nothing there that I’d be so heartbroken about that it would leave a massive hole in my heart.

Also, i’ve called Leopardo on days that they’re OPEN and they didn’t answer, and messaged them through resy.

Nobody said that, but chefs and owners with good business sense make sure that they have someone on staff or contract to make their communications good. Leopardo doesn’t even have hours on its web site (not that there are any at the moment).
