Looking for place for quiet conversation dinner near Little Tokyo

Friends -

A very good work colleague of mine will be in Los Angeles in a week or so, and will be staying near Little Tokyo - however, he walks quite a bit, and would likely be fine with a place within a 1-2 mile radius of where he’s staying. We want to have a relaxed dinner, where we can talk without the noise level/crowding of so many DTLA restaurants. We also are looking for a place that won’t break the bank (like Redbird), but is a level above “casual”. Finally, we’re willing to sit outside - I’ve found that sometimes, outdoor seating is a bit more spacious and less noisy than indoor.

I was wondering about the atmosphere at Maccheroni Republic - it certainly hits our price point, and it’s location makes sense - again, I wasn’t sure if there’s a place to sit where we my friend and I can talk. Also, would love to hear any other recommendations that folks may have.

Thanks in advance!
