March 2024 Rundown

Iceberg is an awesome versatile lettuce. Now, for sandwiches, I do prefer the thinner red leaf and for salads Romaine because I think Iceberg does leech out too much water and waters down dressings. The great exception to this of course is the classic wedge, but you need that sweet juiciness to counter the pungent blue cheese and salty lardons. But for lots of other preps like to top enchiladas or to add to hamburgers… Iceberg all the way.

I also have a soft spot for the lettuce wrap (used to be squab, although not as prevalent now) with iceberg at Canto Chinese restaurants, too.

I really like only iceberg in a classic wedge b/c it basically serves as a way to give me blue cheese. And as a nice texture contrast. And in a BLT and a club.

Had red leaf in hamburger for the first time this weekend (OP Cafe in Santa Monica), and I enjoyed it. I would not have thought that beforehand. They seemed to have used one large piece, which was quite attractive.

Catching up on some postings…

Hadn’t been in a while and decided to take the chowpups to dinner. Everything tastes good but my noodles were woefully overcooked…they almost melted in the broth. At least I got my vegetable content for the meal?
