It is one of their best dishes IMO. That and the egg potato pizza.
West LA is a struggle traffic-wise on a Saturday afternoon. Had to take my teenage son shopping at the last minute for clothes that needed tailoring (fellow parents of teens can relate - future parents be warned).
Zuma was just up the street on Westwood Blvd. We hadnât been since the name change - pretty much seems to be the same owner and food with a more dressed up interior.
Ordered the Adana, Beyti and Iskender doner dinner plates to go. We also ordered the dolmas and house-made baklava. Sorry for not having pics - I was pretty exhausted. However, Iâm happy to report that all dishes delivered.
The dolmas and other dishes come with a wonderful garlicky herb yogurt sauce.
The Adana was perfectly grilled and also came with a chile sauce very much like sambal olek - my wife says it is.
The Beyti was like a decadent over the top Turkish enchilada - crazy.
The Iskender Doner plate was my favorite in the past and still is. Flatbread is cut into pieces, topped with doner kebab, drawn butter is poured onto the doner which is then topped with a tomato sauce and served with a side of yogurt. Lots of âummmâ while eating this one.
The baklava is made there - really nice crispy exterior with a nice hint of rosewater. Do yourself a favor and follow tradition by having it with tea.
damn that looks awesome, how was it? price?
What kind of donut is that?
Forgot to mention the rice pudding. I skipped it last night but had some today. Nice texture on the rice - just a bit firm. Nice balance of being just the right texture and richness for me. Sweetness might be a little too for some, but like a lot of desserts in this cuisine - tea tends to balance out the sweetness of desserts.
It was okay. Price was around $17 IIRC.
It was a cereal donut, basically with sugary corn flakes on top. It provided a nice crunch to a raised donut. Cofax may have an argument for best high end donuts in Los Angeles. I have had quite a few donuts and they are batting a very good average.
I know! Little Jewel is seriously benefiting from Howlinâ Rayâs overflow.
Iskender Doner Plate.
Lots of âummmâ while reading it too.
love the Iskader Kebab there.
Just checked website. Zuma looks great. Love Turkish Mediterranean. My office is near Westwood. I think Iâll go the extra mile and mosey on over there this week.
it is legit Turkish - you will probably see plenty of 5 oclock shadow on guys drinking tea and darting in and out to drag on cigarettes.
Perfect
Friday - Birch
finally got the Fish Tikka Masala which did not disappoint.
terrific new cocktail list, including this playful negroni with ârailsâ of dried campari and sugar (dateâs face redacted to preserve my life)
My bourbon with brown butter and caraway is behind the negroni
Sunday - Bestia - 20 minute wait at 6 PM for bar seats. Wonderful.
Veal Tartare Crostino. shallots. parsley. lemon. tonnato sauce
and a few great pasta dishes.
so hollywood, so awesome. it wouldâve been 11/10 if they used edible printed $1âs instead of whatever straw they gave you.
ones?
cmon ns, its all about the benjamins.
100âs ONLY.
Yep⌠Canât stand Fat Salâs!
Very rarely is there a food that I cannot eat or do not want to continue to eat. Fat Salâs was almost one of them.
Me too! And I rarely just outright criticize a place. But, it is clearly just canned, restaurant supply store food. I mean - and this is just a pet peeve of mine - when you serve chicken fingers with that slimy from a bottle ranch dressing, instead of taking one extra step of opening a darn Hidden Valley Ranch packet and mixing it w/buttermilk or whatever - al la Islands - itâs over.
Pics from 1-2 wks ago (did I post the pic of the pizza already? I donât think I did, but I am too lazy to checkâŚ).
4 cheese from MiDiCi. Yum. They apparently burned the first one and so fired up a new one w/o me having to ask. Wish theyâd open one on the other side of hill.
Last weekend, partner and I decided to take the Expo (to the Purple Line) to Maccheroni Republic. I've never been. Apps (shrimp cakes, calamari) were fine but not exceptional. Tumeric risotto + short ribs was excellent (it looks very weird in the pic). Are olive oil cakes supposed to be quite dense and cakey? I keep thinking that they should be like a chiffon cake, for some reason. At any rate, the blueberry olive oil cake was quite good. Was not fond of the overly lemon-y panna cotta (not pictured), although it was technically fine.
BTW, the Blue and Expo lines confusingly share the same track at the Pershing Square station.

Metro Cafe brunch w/ a friend. I had my usual chevapchichi sandwich. They have the option of a half order of french toast!
Yuko's Kitchen for lunch today. No pics b/c it was kind of a business meeting. I had the unagi bowl. It was fine. Mint lemonade was EXCELLENT. Love the location and how it feels hidden away.
