Mediocre Day at Grand Central Market - Belcampo, Wexler's, Madcapra, Olio's, etc

And they are just reasonable in price enough to cover your fuckin jury stipend for the day.

I once did Wxlers smoked sturgeon bagel, a taco carne asada from Tomas and Tombras and the mighty iconic GCM burger. And washed down with an iced latte for good measure.

And that ain’t no fucking joke.

Yeah. But they won’t slice up say a half dozen cheeses for your liking to consume on the premises.

And those pre-packaged, pre-fucking-ordained cheese plates and beyond soporific.

And that’s no fucking joke.

In some fucking cases it may just amount to the meat in four Lilliputian street tacos.

They also have a WONDERFUL Pineapple Agua Fresca. I always get that no matter what I order at GCM.

Best quote from that thread:

“I cannot stand CH. Not only are they food snobs, they don’t know what they are talking about half of the time. They seem to just follow trends and if something gets too trendy, they say they hate it.”

The response to that is a little zippy for yelp:

“oh…i may be at the wrong site…I’m a food snob who follows trends and don’t know what I’m talking about 1/2 the time…plus, not so sure I’m related to fun…”

GCM is becoming a place for yelpers[/quote]
Can not begin to fathom this statement.

Do you not see the paisanos drinking coor’s (light) at China Cafe at 10am? Sure as shit they’re not on Yelp cuz I see 'em talking on flip phones.

Would you also call Ferry Building, Pike’s Place (or even La Boqueria) “places for Yelpers”?

I even hit up fucking China Café and it wasn’t good and you’re right wasn’t quite a Yelper type of fucking joint.

And upon trying China Café I still lived to tell the tale.

It was like eating in a fucking museum.

THIS. Even on the weekends, it’s a large cross section of L.A. that still goes and enjoys the place.

Yeah, I need to switch to that. Morliana’s tacos are tasty and well worth the $2.50 in quality and quantity. But OMFG!!! $3.75 for a Jarittos? WTF?!?

I know… when you told me I was nearly knocked out. Jarritos are also the WORST of the Mexican sodas!

The agua fresca is HUGE too!

What can I say, I like the orange and they are available at just about every Mexican food joint. I usually stick with water or an agua fresca, but there’s something about fried pork washed down with soda that hits that soft spot in my heart. Probably the spot that’s getting clogged up with cholesterol.

Ferry Building. Yes. Most definitely.

this viewing of food establishments through das kapital - coloured lenses really puts the lemon right in my eye.
to paraphrase the duke, there’s two kinds of food, good or bad, regardless of who’s eating it.

Exactly,

Can I just say that the white bean spread with flatbread at madcapra is one of the best things I’ve eaten in recent memory? Even better than the white bean spread at pizzeria mozza. Boy white bean spread is good. And it’s the single best use of oil cured olives that I’ve ever encountered. And the green falafel salad was great too. I love how they smear the side of the bowl with the labneh. The food is beautifully and imaginatively prepared, and it’s delicious and healthy. Love love love Madcapra!

Good and bad are still classes though =P

I was able to try the Wexlers tribute to the #19 (the MacArthur Park), and I thought it was pretty fantastic - it’s been a few years now since I’d had the OG (Langer’s #19) so it’s not really fair for me to compare these two but if memory serves, I’d have to say I swooned over the original a bit more. I think the Langer’s version is/was larger (but I believe it’s also more expensive so it should be?), I polished off the MacArthur Park without much trouble, loved that smoky, beefy goodness, esp. with a little of that spicy brown mustard.

And the bread, I thought the bread was very good, too.

I do like the sandwich at Wexler’s but I just wish they used better bread…I guess I’m spoiled by Langer’s….
You can’t have a great sandwich without great bread…
