Warrior: less flavor than the average LA Mexican restaurant, less refinement than Damian or Corteza. None of the food was noteworthy. 2.9 Warrior Points.
Peony: the ingredients were good quality. The flavors were not bad. It just doesn’t stand out from the other fancy, elevated Mexican restaurants in LA
I think I liked it better than y’all did. Maybe that was helped by the fact that I really enjoyed the cocktails, and when I asked for some background on Mexican rums they poured me a flight of them.
I did like the smaller bites we had quite a bit tho, the aguachile, crab esquites, salsas, and beans. It’s probably a tier below Damian and sister restaurant Mirame, but I think it’s aiming more for a bar vibe anyway tbh.
We had an outstanding meal at Mirate this week. Great ambiance (there are multiple areas, we were in the ‘atrium’ area which felt like a normal restaurant, but many other areas which are more like a bar vibe), attentive service, and delicious food.
Crab esquites, aguachile, whole fried snapper were positive standouts. Fish tacos were good but I remember Mirame tacos being better. I did not try any cocktails but my group said they were wonderful and paired with food well.
