I‘ve been to Playa del Carmen a few times and love it. It’s been years so my recs wouldn’t be current, but honestly the best meals we had were from asking hotel staff, cab drivers & locals where they like to eat. We ended up at non-touristy gems. Have fun! Report back!

Not many great recs other than we liked El Fogon, which is a super casual grilled meat restaurant / taqueria. Lots of local families go there, and you can see a big trompo in a bunch of their pics.
