porchetta in Los Angeles?? There’s a butcher in Oxbow Market in Napa that always has a cooked porchetta roast sitting out that you can buy by the pound or have them make a sandwich for you…Any place like this in L.A.??
Two options in the Westside:
Gjusta in Venice usually has porchetta in their case and can make a sandwich for you.
Status Kuo in Mar Vista is renovating right now, but they serve porchetta as a main.
I haven’t tried it myself, but The Stand in Northridge has a Porchetta sandwich on their menu. We’ve liked everything we’ve had there.
Second Gjusta. Also, Mozza2Go does a nice porchetta sandwich.
A Cut Above has porchetta in the case (was there this past weekend); I don’t see it on their menu, though.
Stir Marketplace on Beverly Blvd. has it. Of course, the best ever was Evan Funke’s from his porchetta truck. God I miss that!
I tried the porchetta from Stir Marketplace. Was very forgettable.
I still dream about the porchetta I had at Catogna in SF.
I haven’t tried it, but The Stand in Northridge has a Porchetta sandwich on their menu. Everything else I’ve had there has been good.
Does rabbit “porchetta” count? Enjoyed this dish at Love & Salt in Manhattan Beach the other night.
Holy moly
yeah, that is a great sandwich.
Going to L&S tonight. Only 2 people. Rabbit porchetta or pig’s head? Other suggestions? Sorry for slight off topic. Going from Santa Monica, so want to get order right the first time (long drive, won’t be back very often).
Only went once - last Wednesday. Pig head was not an option for our group of four. I wanted to try it but two found it off-putting - way too adventurous for them. The raw duck egg on the pizza was already pushing it.
Any roasted veggies.
The chicken “oysters” - kinda small portion but nice way to start with drinks. Accompanying pickles were bright - I’d consider ordering those if available.
Black kale salad - kale is so 2014 but it’s still great done right.
English muffins at an Italian eatery? Only in SoCal.
Corned lamb tongue panini
Pastas perfectly al dente- bone marrow trattole, create di gallo
Duck egg pizza - over the top with that duck egg broken on spread on the pizza.
Grilled octopus with chorizo and potatoes - tender, savory and nice char.
Rabbit “porchetta” - nice combination of flavors rolled into the rabbit - porchetta style.
Wines by the bottle list is substantial - only two of four of us were drinkers. Ordered a glass of Brunello di Montalcino that worked well with most dishes. Also enjoyed a negroni to start.
The non-alcohol drinks are worth considering. The Grape White Hope is everything one would want from a cocktail sans alcohol. This would be a good drink to order for a white wine sub.
Warm Italian donuts - two slightly smaller than tennis balls; one filled with lemon curd, the other with Nutella. Made to order.
Brown sugar pudding was nice with the donuts - may be a little too simple if ordered alone.
Didn’t realize this until the next day but Aesthete posted L&S a while back. Please look over his thread and other’s thoughts as well.
Thanks, bula. Yeah, I’m going because of Aesthete’s post, but your visit is so right now, and more tastebuds are better. Will use your response as guide. Still on the fence as we love rabbit and love porchetta, but have never had pigs head and the skin looks soooo good. Wish we both had a spare stomach!
The rabbit porchetta is kinda novel, but I would choose the pig head myself. Like you said, the skin looks amazing, and I am guessing the meat underneath is moist and flavorful.
Some of the portions can be light. Scan other tables for reference.
Grilled and roasted items tend to take longer (veggies are reasonably fast). The waitress mentioned this and to order those items as early as possible.
Pigs head it is! Thanks again. Will report back on Aesthete’s Love and Salt thread. But as long as I’m on the porchetta thread, let me add my vote to the absolute deliciousness of Gjusta’s porchetta melt.
Sounds Fantastic!!
Did I type “mice”? Oops - note to self - reread.
