Rod Knife Sharpener

This might sound dumb. Mine doesn’t seem to work well. I assume they can get “dull”, for lack of a better term. How do I tell for sure?

Could anyone recommend an inexpensive replacement?

get an Idahone for about 40 plus or minus. there are other similar for cheaper too but I trust them. F.Dick makes the best steels but they’ll run you at least double that.

Are you talking about a honing steel or a ceramic sharpening rod?

I don’t know. I’m not getting good results from the rod I have now, but it’s very old. I’ve used a stone infrequently, but I’m afraid I may have done more harm than good the last time. It seemed to work in the past so I’m really just guessing.

I don’t quite know where to go from here. I’m just a home cook, so it doesn’t have to be elaborate
