Ronan on Melrose: Looks Promising (but Pricey AF)

For $35/51 you can get a “Pasturebird” (which I assume means a chicken) with roasted summer squash, salsa siciliana, wild arugula.
That’s a lotta dough for a bird.

The linked Eater pictures look good (the pictured fish looks much more delicious than the fish I had last night at Avra), but I hate, hate, hate that communal table trend that Republique seems to have started. I particularly hate long communal tables at high-priced restaurants.

Sushi bar at Jiro is crying…:sob:

No a nice sushi bar (and I have eaten at plenty in Japan, although not at Jiro) is a completely different experience than a long communal table with picnic benches. A sushi bar at a nice sushi restaurant is the height of “shibui” – the long picnic tables that seem to be in vogue nowadays, I would say are the antithesis of shibui. For one thing, I have never felt crammed like a sardine at a nice sushi bar and I get my very own seat, not a picnic bench. These communal tables remind me more of camping with your own equipment at high altitude and setting up a camp table, although even then you get your own little stool, and at high altitude you don’t mind being crammed in because it is damn cold.

Heheh I know your acumen is keen. Your street cred is good with me.

I might I think that’s what you have to do to maximize the covers and work with a normal investor cash vs. big outside money. Most people won’t care, and they have plenty of tables outside if you don’t want to sit with strangers.

think it’s right by Toasted and Roasted (favorite coffee)

Any thoughts on Ronan so far? Who’s been? I want to go back but just haven’t been able. There are so many new restaurant openings!

I went pretty close to their opening. Liked the salads and cocktails quite a lot, but found the pizza inconsistent - pretty good flavors, but our margherita was undercooked and the marinara was a little over.

I would go back to see if they’ve nailed things down, but I think it’ll be a while. Because there are so many places to try (especially new pizza) and because I liked both Hail Mary and Roberta’s a little more.

Damn straight - It’s a downright food renaissance I tell ya!

Your boss just tweeted about going last night so ask him

Who Farley? He is my deputy actually. Yeah he’s doing a short writeup on Ronan for the weekend guide
