brace yourselves, pumpkin spice is coming.
This @Clayfu levels of olive oil!
Brooklyn baby. The weather should be nice around this time of the year.
Was a beautiful wkd in nyc. Wish i could have hit up more spots, but only so many hours in the day. How does lucali still have lines starting at 3 pm?! When does chrissys become available?!
Clark Street Bread
Stopped by while in the neighborhood for some pastries and lunch.
The pastries were gifts and the country loaf I took home made for great sandwiches.
I didn’t love my jambone buerre…it needs more butter. But the turkey pesto was good.
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams
Ice cream for breakfast? Sure…the summer Sparkling Cherry pie is a delight. The seasonal sorbet is super refreshing on a hot day…so much so that my sister had 4 scoops.
That was the one @Dommy was raving about, IIRC…
Anyone tried Hummingbird? Carl Stone ate there.
Has anyone tried Adam Perry Lang’s pop-up at Gin Rummy Bar?
Not yet but we live nearby and have seen lines around the building before noon.
Wait is this a desert gold fish cracker!
I didn’t see the “strawberry shortcake” part until AFTER I bought it. It’s whole wheat (!!!) and seems to have some dusting of “berry powder” (similar to cheap cereal flavoring). It’s… actually not bad. Certainly better than the bizarro flavor-blasted Goldfish.
So, yes, a dessert cracker!
My sister bought that, too.
Just tried yesterday! Great to see Ricardo having a blast behind the open bar/kitchen, ceviches and aguachiles with great flavors (not as spicy as Holbox)
Servers are green but at least everyone is very friendly, no alcohol!
Went to Paloma Venice today to see how it fares after the Jason Neroni redo. From what we tried, nothing was special. Prices were decent and the space is nice, though. I wouldn’t go back unless I had friends visiting from out of town and Gjelina was fully booked.
ALL THE TOMATOS
whipped ricotta, roasted tomato vinaigrette, basil, black garlic
Not great. Tomatoes were fine, but every tomato is good during the summer.
Bee’s Knees or something like that. Not on the menu online. Hot honey and pepp. Not a good tasting pizza. Friend had to spit out a piece of hard plastic, so this pizza was comped.
THE GROOT PIZZA
charred onion crema, onion, garlic, thyme, hen of the woods mushrooms, caciocavallo
This was solid, only thing I would get again.
Any of yall been to Bridgetown Roti brick and mortar? Got delivery tonight and really enjoyed it. Want to go and sit sometime soon.
Everything was really good across the board, found the perfect spot on the high end of the salt scale, lots of great and diverse flavors, heat from the hot sauces, and good textures.
Had chicken roti, pumpkin roti, eggplant patty, and a surprise hit cocobread cutter. That turned out to be a fried fish sandwich with green tomato, slaw, and ‘green seasoning.’ I don’t know how but it stayed really crispy on a long-ish delivery, and all the acidity was a great complement. Fun stuff.

Archivist Rosie Grant x Chef Johnny
Chef Johnny debones a chicken fast.
Fun event, even if the ac and monitor were gone. I’m here for art/culture + eating events.
I tried to make one-pot “hainan” chicken and rice in the instant pot. It emphatically did not work out for me
P.S. we made kueh! Made is a generous term: we put together the premade filling and premade dough. Sounds like they won’t be on the Rasa Rumah menu; they’re troublesome. If you’re ever around NYC though check out Lady Wong, Kuih Cafe, Kopitiam
Tried the Nikutama ramen at Ramen Ochi at Westfield Century City. The Sanjyu broth is a blend of beef, chicken and pork, making for a rich, flavorful soup. Instead of beef, they use thin slices of pork belly. It comes with a raw egg, but I subbed in a soft-boiled one. It was the best bowl of ramen I’ve had in a long time.
Ramen Ochi îs tucked away on the first floor of the mall in the old Bibigo spot, next to La Colombe and across from Panini Kabob Grill.
Yes! I dined in recently and everything I ordered was great.
Cod Fritters
Mac and Cheese Pie
Shrimp Patty
Goat/Peanut sauce roti (my god)
Jerk Cucumber salad
Honestly would eat all of them again.
