Oh! I’m so glad you finally tried it. I really like them. Great duo visit with them and choriman. I like the maple habanero pork too.
For Shake Shack Style Burgers in the South Bay that aren’t shake shack… I perfer Burger City Grill. There are a few locations in the South Bay.

We like this place a lot! Their chicken tenders are also pretty solid.
I remember absolutely loving the one in NYC on 72nd (?) but I’ve found the ones I’ve had in Hollywood and Santa Monica sub-McDonalds.
So am I. Thanks for the recommendation!
Yeah, two of them are 5 mins or so from my house. I go there sometimes when I don’t feel like driving to El Segundo, but I personally love Shack Shack and will take it over any burger place we have in the South Bay.
I have to go to this place, I’ve been boycotting in n out recently so this looks like a great option.
Cash Burger @ Standing Room! If you like bacon westerns you will love this. My favorite South Bay burger. Ercoles is also very tasty!
I do love me some mushroom burger and chicken sandwich at Shake Shack.
I had a pretty disappointing burger there a couple months back was sloppily made and beef was overcooked, not the same as back when they first opened and before they expanded.
Every damn time.
Anyone know of any Torrance-area Japanese spots that a) are open for lunch and b) a vegetarian might enjoy? I’m poking around but it’s tough to tell about b. Thx!
I-Naba vegetable tempura
And the soba!
Thanks @A5KOBE @CiaoBob! That’s exactly what we did. The soba broth has fish, but it was warm down there so the veg got it cold with broth on the side. She loved it. I ended up with a very solid bento.
Chinollo Saltado Peruano with Steak.
Thai BBQ Chicken from Bowl Thai Grill (Redondo Beach). Just opened so selection is limited to about eight to ten dishes for now. Focus is in Thai street food.
Iron Chef Mapo Yakisoba from Ebonshi Ramen. Mapo Tofu wouldn’t be my goto dish in other places but this I do crave for once a while. Its flavor is sweet and sour with a hint of Szechuan spiciness.
The ramen is perfectly pan fried this time.
In what seems like a neverending quest to find Japanese curry that satisfies me like Curry House’s did, I think the one at Misasa in the Mitsuwa Torrance food court comes pretty close. And I asked for it extra spicy and it had a decent amount of heat.
Oh wow! Thanks for posting! They are related to Rabano from Hermosa and Santa Monica. LOVE THEM. Will keep this in mind when I’m near Carson…
Chinollo has better execution than Rabano. Different enough for me to drive 10 minutes further. Interesting that they have a third one. Hope their expansion plan is better than Yellow Fever. Btw, I love the Chinollo location, serving a completely different demographic.
Not sure what the consensus on Madre (Torrance location) here is, but I sure love them. They’ve been consistently very good from the Before Times to during the first year of the pandemic when I was only eating takeout to now.
Really good meal last night.
Chicharrones (guacamole, salsa):
Tlayuda doblada (asiento, black bean paste, avocado, tomato, cabbage, radish, quesillo, cecina, chorizo, tasajo, salsa):
Barbacoa de chivo (goat, avocado leaves, chiles):
It was really dark inside, so the photos look weird.
This is a meal from last September with better light.
Ceviche de pescado (halibut, lime juice, mango, cilantro, avocado, tomatoes, and fried calamari):
Handmade blue corn tortillas:
Parillada (cecina, tasajo, chorizo, quesillo, chiles rellenos, pico de gallo, avocado salsa, grilled vegetables, Mexican rice, and black bean paste):
Looks delicious, I’ve been to the madre in weho I thought the drinks were better than the food but that was many years ago. Maybe we’ll give this one a try the photos of the food look really good.
I’ve only been to the Torrance location, which I’ve heard a few folks say is better than the others, but I’ve no idea. I hope you like it if you go!
