The pictures make it look really good I’m sure even if it’s not Holbox levels of good it’ll be great to have some drinks and food there.
Sadly there’s not that many places in South Bay that have the combination of drinks, food, and atmosphere that would be good for say a friday night date night so the bar is super low.
Those are some crazy looking chicharrones. They almost look like thin waffles. We’ve been buying the chicharrones at Northgate a lot recently and decided I don’t like the ones with meat/fat attached to them. These used to be my favorite but I think they lose their appeal if not eaten warm out of the oil. I’m team all crunchy if buying them for home consumption.
The food at Madre looks great especially those blue corn tortillas.
Based on your pictures… I would say so! I’ve been to the one in Palms and it’s a decent brunch spot. Excellent Cafe de Olla (which I spike with a shot of Tequilla ;))
Yeah, they can be kind of chewy and tough. Probably better for me anyway since there’s a Northgate within a short walk of me and I do like my fried pork.
Anyone been to Proudly Serving’s pop ups and tried their burgers? They just opened a brick and mortar on the Redondo Beach pier. Looking forward to checking them out.
Fusili amatriciana, great well cooked dish of pasta. Forgot to take picture of the lasagna which was even better.
Fatto a Mano definitely scratching that pasta mama itch. I actually think their lasagna is better. They run pretty lean and get pretty busy so be sure to call ahead.
Also @paranoidgarliclover at least when I ordered he gave me a very specific time and when I arrived early he noted I was 15 min early lol. Other times I have called it’s been like a 1.5-2 hr wait so that’s why it’s taken me so long to order from there.
Again, the agedashi Meiji tofu was spectacular and easily the best thing eaten on the night. So many flavors with such complexity while still showcasing the velvety texture of the Meiji tofu. Definitely order this if you happen to try it out. Eat it in small bowls with spoons so you can use each bite with a bit of tofu and the broth. The lurking bursts of ikura were excellent with the wasabi and dashi flavor.
The sunchokes were pretty good, the aji verde was a bit mild for me and wish it had more flavor and heat of the likes of others I have had. Sorry, blurry picture because it was super dark inside.
The tonkatsu was a bit whelming considering they boast Peads and Barnett pork however the flavor was just not there and it was a bit tough. The outer crust was not tonkatsu, seems like a bread crumb crust instead of the flakey panko crust. Kagura has nothing to worry about in both execution and flavor.
