just like in la the otsumami and sushi here are excellent. but what sets this location apart from la is the intimate seven seat sushi counter, and on this night, execute chef akifumi sakagami.
sakagami-san is the ec for the entire ginza ondera group and has trained all the chefs at each ginza ondera location worldwide. he mainly works in tokyo but visits the other locations on occasion. he’s obviously a great chef but he’s also probably the most personable and funniest itamae i’ve dined with. there were a few japanese customers that he was conversing with in japanese while also talking to us in english. so that nobody felt left out he took the time to explain what everybody was talking about.
definitely the most fun, convivial omakase i’ve had, highly recommended @Chowseeker1999, @TheCookie, @NYCtoLA, @Hungrydrunk, @Sgee, @butteredwaffles, @A5KOBE, @attran99, @CiaoBob
pro tip: buy the chefs a drink.
